The Young Promoters

Empowering the community through Music

One of the main partners on the project was Long Eaton Community Youth Centre. We first made contact with the centre when they contacted us saying there was a lack of music provision in the town and little for young people to do, especially within the creative arts. The centre already had a studio but it wasn't being used and that this was a shame as so many of the young participants were heavily into their music.

The project allowed YMCA Digital to deliver a series of workshops and sessions. Staff members and trainees such as Trekkkah, Bru-C, Jonathan Daniel and Raphael Blake delivered workshops in MCing, Instrumental tuition, Recording, Performance Techniques, Poetry, Creative Writing, Djing and Song Writing.

The sessions were heavily attended with over 20 young participants taking part each week in 16 week program. The group put on an amazing event at the centre after I'm Not From London came in to deliver workshops around event promotion.

A number of the young participants involved in the project went on to perform at the final collaborative showcase at Nottingham contemporary. This event was a culmination of the three groups work and acted as a platform for all the participants to perform on an amazing stage in the City Centre, most of which were the first major performance for the participants.
