The History of Immigration

Funded by The Heritage Lottery Fund, ‘The History of Immigration project’, will empower young people from Nottingham to explore the stories and journeys of people from the African, Caribbean and Pakistani communities, looking at how and why they came to and settled in Nottingham during different periods, the late 1940's - 60's for the Caribbean and Pakistani communities, and the 1990’s for the African community.

The project will collect the oral histories of these people considering not only their journey to the UK and Nottingham, but also the barriers and issues that they faced when settling in the city.

We will also collect their stories about establishing a community through the key subjects of food, fashion and music, discussing with them and researching how these elements of their culture have been received, accepted or adopted in the city since their arrival.

The project is being run in partnership with :

· Cultural Vibrations (Unity through Music) – African and Caribbean communities

· Box Smart Nottingham - Pakistani community
